This story is written and told by Danny English.
The Spruce and the Star is a Christmas story for or times.
In this tale a forest full of spruce trees are no longer content with life in the hill. They see the glittering lights in the town below, Christmas is coming and the promise of being adorned with lights encourages them to leave.
All but one tree- one spruce is happy and content with its place on the hill but when its fellow trees are taken away to the town it is overcome with loneliness and jealousy and looks towards the sky for help.
Find out what happens to the spruce and discover why we put stars on trees at Christmas.
After listening to this story consider the following questions:
The spruce trees in the story are no longer happy with their place on the hills and are tempted into town by the promise of treasures. Have you ever felt drawn toward an item and when you got it realized it wasn’t as special as you imagined?
The Spruce in the story is really happy and content on the hill- can you think of 5 things that you are really happy and content with where you live?
This story is an alternative story about the star on the tree- the Christmas story most people know is about 3 wise men who followed a star, is it okay to rewrite stories like this? Can you try writing your own Christmas story?
Lovely story about the importance of contentment and appreciation of the natural world.
Beautiful story!

Danny, love all your stories can we download a PDF version of them anywhere?
Absolutely beautiful!
Loved the story, thanks Danny... especially like the why put the star on top of the tree moment. I’ll remember that. and yes as you say, story for our times... far to many of us, myself included, want for the trappings and shiny bits of modern life at the expense of enjoying the simple things we don’t need to sacrifice ourselves for. Great story. X
