Before you begin this session please read and listen to our Introduction to Yoga with We Be Kids.
'Tis the autumn season where nights draw in and we find ourselves in an increasingly colder and darker time of the year, often filled with wind, rain, hail, snow, chill and grey skies here in the UK (although not exclusively - there are beautiful bright days too!).
In this session we consider Halloween which arrives on October 31st. However the ideas of halloween are celebrated in many different ways around the world throughout the year. As part of those celebrations many like to dress up and impersonate the idea of witches, ghouls and walking skeletons and in this session, for some spook-tastic fun, we shall scare the sillies out of ourselves with a skeleton dress up themed yoga warm up session. Mwwwwaahhhhhhahaahaha! Dress up if you want to and join in!
Historically halloween, or all hallows eve, was a celebration that gave thanks for the harvest but that also recognised the hope that the harvest would be enough to see people safely through the winter ahead. It was a time to appreciate life, with a keen understanding of death and also a chance to remember passed loved ones. Halloween was considered a time where the boundary between those who had already passed and those who were still living could be breached and futures could be told. Many of those historical concepts still colour our beliefs today and the ways in which halloween is celebrated.
