This session gives you the chance to learn two mindful techniques to try with your family to introduce them to some mindful eating concepts. These exercises are far shorter than any mindful eating time you may get on a retreat because they are designed with the whole family in mind, some of whom may be quite young and find waiting to eat something they enjoy a little harder. We hope that you benefit from them and enjoy trying them out. Whilst using this yoga resource to inspire learning, know you are helping you and your family's wellbeing to:
2) Keep Learning - Use this session to learn a new way of approaching your food. Mindful eating can bring a deeper level of gratitude into our lives as we understand in more moments just how amazing and lucky we are to have all the foods that we do. Over time, mindful eating can also promote an awareness of our natural eating habits rather than learnt ones or habit.
3) Be Mindful- Try these exercises yourself first to understand what you will be doing and then try them with your family. There are many moments throughout this practice that promote mindfulness, from noticing your breath to how you consume your food.
4) Practice Kindness- Although this practice is designed with the whole family in mind, remember that much younger children may only manage one of the exercises as it requires sitting and focus at a level that may be beyond them and that they may not be able to wait to eat the food, this is only natural and may be age related so don't be angry with them. Practice kindness to yourself and them and let it go, you can always try again another time.
5) Think Community - Practice this session with your community - eg your family if you feel that this is useful & appropriate for them.
